This week is the second to
the last week for my Introduction to Entrepreneurship course with BYU-Idaho.
This week we looked at the idea of “A Journey of Gratitude”. I had not thought that
feeling gratitude could be a journey. I always felt that you were always just grateful
for what you had in your life, or you were not. During this week I began to see
where the idea of gratitude being a journey could be a good way to look at it.
When people do not necessarily
feel grateful they have to go through the process of learning that the things
that are good in their life are things that can be used to keep them going. They
can also learn that the idea of something going the wrong way could also be something
they can be grateful for. In a video from his podcast posted to youtube.com
former Navy Seal Joko Willink said “Oh, the
mission got canceled? Good… We can focus on another one.
Didn’t get the new high-speed gear we
wanted? Good… We can keep it simple.
Didn’t get promoted? Good… More time to
get better.
Didn’t get funded? Good… We own more of
the company.
Didn’t get the job you wanted? Good… Go
out, gain more experience, and build a better resume.
Got injured? Good… Needed a break from
training.
Got tapped out? Good… It’s better to tap
out in training than tap out on the street.
Got beat? Good… We learned.
Unexpected problems? Good… We have to
figure out a solutions”.
This quote plus the
lessons learned from the readings and videos have shown me that any situation
can be seen as a having positive outcome or “silver lining”, you just need to
alter your perspective and try to see the lessons buried within.
